  • View through a door

    Through the arched doorway
    Myths of legendary Kings,
    Arthurian legend.

Tintagel in Cornwall is allegedly the seat of King Arthur, of round table and Merlin fame. The castle ruins are quite spectacular, but the way out through this particular door is not for the faint hearted.

  • King Canute

    Unstoppable force
Set free by the wind and tide.
    Boy stands defiant

Taken during a stormy day at Scarborough on the east coast. I was waiting for a decent wave to photograph, and saw King Canute here facing down the seas. Needless to say, a fraction of a second later he was totally soaked. Wave 1 : Boy 0

  • Surfers Paradise

    On the way back in.
The sea is calm, I am leaving,
    Back when the surf’s up.

Taken on a fairly deserted beach in Ireland, the sea didn’t look the best for surfing. This was also one of my first images where I have applied the Adamsky effect. Sometimes the image is what you see, and not what is there.

  • Remembering

    Remembering days
When I braved the open seas.
    Now I sit and watch.

The North Landing at Flamborough in North Yorkshire is a sheltered cove, home to many seabirds in the cliffs. The Springflower is an old fishing boat, looking out over the cove where it launched.

  • Together Alone

    High on the cliff edge
    Insignificant figures –
    but not to each other.

This image was taken from the island at Tintagel. The two figures on the cliff were a lucky chance, but help to give the feeling of both the scale and the companiable isolation of the couple.
